OpenAI is on track to unveil its first AI device in the second half of 2026, according to chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane. The product is being designed by Jony Ive's oi Products team, which merged with OpenAI after a $6.5 billion acquisition. Leaks point to a screen-free, pocket-sized gadget.

Previous reports suggested a non-wearable device, but new supply chain leaks describe two metallic, pill-shaped modules that rest behind the ear. Codenamed "Sweetpea," these devices reportedly feature a custom 2nm chip and sensors for environmental awareness, stored in an egg-shaped case. This design suggests functional overlap with Apple's AirPods.

The leaker known as Smart Pikachu claims Foxconn is manufacturing the wearable, with a potential launch as soon as September. While Lehane only committed to a "latter part" of 2026 timeline, the behind-the-ear wearable appears to be Ive's team's priority. OpenAI is also reportedly developing a pen and home-style device for future release.
