Notepad++ Creator Demands Trademark Fix for Fake Mac App

Don Ho, the creator of Notepad++, slammed an unofficial macOS version that uses the brand without permission. In a blog post, he labeled the app "not authorized, not endorsed, and not affiliated," calling the move misleading and disrespectful.

Co‑developer Andrey Letov agreed to rebrand the port. He announced a new logo, name, and domain that will launch with version 1.0.6 in the coming days, aiming to preserve user continuity while distancing the app from the original.

The dispute highlights the tension between open‑source projects and independent ports. While Notepad++ has never released an official macOS build, the community's demand for a native editor keeps pressure on the developers to resolve trademark issues.

Ultimately, users will receive a rebranded macOS editor that respects Notepad++’s lineage, but the original project maintains its stance that no official Mac release exists.
