Apple today unveiled new Mac Studio models with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Pre-orders began today ahead of a September 22 launch, but one configuration will not be available until later.

Apple says the Mac Studio with the M5 Ultra chip and 512GB of RAM will be coming in "late October," with U.S. pricing expected to start well above the $10,000 mark. Apple stopped offering the previous-generation Mac Studio with 512GB of RAM in March due to the ongoing memory chip shortage, but it appears that the upgrade option will return for the new model in two months from now.

Apple today announced new Mac Studio models with the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, the latter of which is the company's most powerful chip ever. The new Mac Studio features a next-generation SSD architecture built on PCIe Gen 6 that Apple says is up to twice as fast as before. The machine also gains Thunderbolt 5 ports with up to 120Gb/s of bandwidth, along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Pre-orders for the Mac mini and Mac Studio are already live in the United States and 30 other countries. Most configurations ship Tuesday, September 22.
