Apple has announced its next-generation Mac Studio lineup powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, available for pre-order today alongside the new Mac mini. The M5 Max Mac Studio features an 18-core CPU with 6 super cores and 12 performance cores, up to a 40-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and up to 614GB/s memory bandwidth. It starts with 36GB of unified memory, configurable up to 128GB. Apple claims up to 10.7x faster LLM processing versus M1 Max and 3.9x faster than M4 Max.

The flagship M5 Ultra Mac Studio offers a 36-core CPU with 12 super cores and 24 performance cores, delivering 1.3x higher multithreaded performance than M3 Ultra. Its up-to-80-core GPU includes Neural Accelerators for the first time on an Ultra chip. Memory starts at 96GB and scales to 512GB with 1.2TB/s bandwidth. Benchmarks show up to 15.4x faster ML training versus M1 Ultra and 4x faster LLM processing than M3 Ultra.

Both models include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 via Apple's N1 chip, support for up to eight external displays, PCIe Gen 6 storage, Thunderbolt 5 at 120Gb/s, and genlock over USB-C. M5 Max starts at $2,000; M5 Ultra pricing was not fully detailed in the source.
