A U.S. International Trade Commission judge ruled that Apple's workaround for blood oxygen sensing in the Apple Watch does not infringe Masimo's patents, clearing the way for the feature's continued use in the United States. This preliminary decision prevents a revived import ban that had briefly halted Apple Watch sales in December 2023. Apple disabled the feature in January 2024 but reintroduced it in August 2025 by processing data on a paired iPhone rather than the watch itself.

The workaround was approved by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
