iPhone 18 Pro Camera Costs 50% More

iPhone 18 Pro models will feature a variable aperture camera system costing Apple 50% more than current camera units, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The persistent camera rumor finally entered production this year, representing Apple's most significant camera upgrade in years.

Unlike the fixed f/1.78 aperture in previous iPhone Pro models, the new system physically adjusts lens opening size to control light reaching the sensor. This upgrade offers better exposure control and greater flexibility over depth of field, potentially setting a new standard for smartphone photography.

Sunny Optical will supply 40-50% of these camera modules, becoming a new compact camera supplier for Apple. The increased cost reflects Apple's continued investment in premium camera technology as the iPhone 18 Pro lineup prepares to launch this fall alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone.
