iOS 27 Hides Accidental Messages Button

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 introduce a solution for a common annoyance: accidentally tapping the dictation or voice recording icon in the Messages app. This stray tap can interrupt music playback as the iPhone begins listening. The issue gained public attention, with popstar Justin Bieber even complaining about the close proximity of the send button and the audio/dictation icons.

Apple has added a new setting in the Messages app that allows users to customize the text field. You can now choose to display the audio waveform icon, the microphone icon for dictation, or remove the icon entirely by selecting "None." This setting can be found under Settings > Apps > Messages > Show in Text Field.

For users who still want to record audio messages or use dictation, these functions remain accessible. Audio recording can be initiated via the plus button next to the input field, and dictation is available through the standard iOS keyboard. iOS 27 is currently in beta, with a public release anticipated in September.
