iOS 27 Beta Adds Inline Replies to Android RCS Messages

Apple’s second iOS 27 developer beta introduces inline replies for RCS chats with Android devices. Users can long‑press a message and select “Reply,” mirroring the iMessage experience. The feature lets iPhone users respond directly to a specific line in a mixed‑platform conversation, narrowing the gap between Apple’s native messaging and carrier‑based RCS, making mixed‑device threads feel native again.

iOS 27 also corrects how tapback emojis appear on photos and videos. Where iOS 26 displayed a text placeholder like “[x loved an image],” the new beta overlays the actual emoji on the media, just as iMessage does. Apple first added RCS support in iOS 18 and added end‑to‑end encryption in iOS 26.5, meaning more RCS capabilities are arriving.

The beta remains developer‑only; Apple plans a public beta in July and the full iOS 27 release in September. Inline RCS replies and proper emoji rendering bring cross‑platform chats closer to the fluidity of iMessage, potentially reducing friction for users who communicate with Android contacts. Wider adoption hinges on carrier support, but the update signals Apple’s continued push to make RCS a first‑class feature.
