iOS 26.4 Beta 2 Expands RCS Encryption Testing

Apple has released the second beta of iOS 26.4, continuing testing on the upcoming update with several small tweaks and one major new feature. The most significant addition is expanded end-to-end encryption testing for RCS messages between iPhones and Android devices, though Apple doesn't plan to implement this feature until later in 2026.

In the new beta, encrypted messages sent to Android users now display a lock icon when encryption is enabled, but this functionality remains limited to specific devices and carriers. Both iOS users and Android users with the latest Google Messages app can participate in the testing. Other changes include a more transparent Liquid Glass design for the Home Screen's "Edit" menu, a repositioned search bar in the Games app, and updated branding for Apple Account in the App Store and Apple Music.

The update also introduces a new "Reduce Highlighting Effects" option in Accessibility, allows users to view build numbers during updates, and changes beta testing policies. Apple will now automatically switch users back to public releases if they don't install betas for four months. Despite earlier code discoveries, no new emoji characters appear in this beta, and Playlist Playground remains limited to the U.S. market.
