Apple's first iOS 26.4 developer beta arrives with a substantial feature set. The Apple Podcasts app now supports video episodes with offline viewing, while Stolen Device Protection becomes enabled by default for all users, a response to passcode-theft schemes. A landmark change is end-to-end encryption for RCS messages, which secures chats between iPhone and Android users.

This encryption closes a major security gap, as previous RCS chats lacked full protection. The update also introduces EU-specific compliance features like Notification Forwarding to third-party wearables and planned Proximity Pairing, addressing antitrust demands for platform parity. These changes stem from regulatory pressure to open iOS to competing accessories.

Apple Music gains a generative Playlist Playground that creates custom 25-song lists from text prompts. A unified Apple Account hub streamlines settings across the App Store and Music, while a new ambient music widget targets focus and sleep. Smaller additions include a Freeform Creator Studio for subscribers and an "Urgent" section in Reminders.

The beta is currently developer-only, with a public test expected soon. These updates focus on core app functionality, security hardening, and regulatory adaptation, offering tangible improvements for everyday use without speculative future promises.
