Apple is planning AI-driven upgrades to its Camera and Photos apps in iOS 27, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The Camera app will gain a dedicated Siri mode alongside existing options like Photo and Video, replacing the current Visual Intelligence experience. This feature will allow users to photograph objects and have them analyzed by AI agents or reverse image search, positioning Apple to prepare users for future visual AI products.

The Photos app will receive new Apple Intelligence tools called "Reframe" and "Extend." Reframe enables users to change photo perspectives, while Extend uses AI to generate additional portions of images. The Camera app will also feature a new "Add Widgets" panel, making the interface more customizable by allowing users to prioritize professional controls like depth adjustments or tools like timers and Night mode.

Elsewhere in iOS 27, the Shortcuts app will get a significant overhaul allowing users to create automations using natural language instead of manual workflows. This approach extends to photo editing, where users could request specific edits by voice or text. These changes reflect Apple's broader strategy of integrating AI throughout its ecosystem while maintaining its focus on user-friendly interfaces.
