iOS 26.4 Brings Video Streaming to CarPlay Displays

Apple is preparing to let CarPlay users watch video content on their vehicle displays through iOS 26.4. The feature, first announced at WWDC 2025, allows video streaming via AirPlay when the car is parked. Developer Thomas Dye demonstrated the functionality in Xcode's CarPlay simulator, showing that any AirPlay-supported app can play videos on the car's screen.

In the simulator, users can toggle video between the car display and their iPhone using a button in the Dynamic Island. The demo also revealed an Apple TV app for CarPlay with access to Apple's streaming service, personal libraries, and MLS Season Pass. Howeverif this fully featured version will ship in the final release.

While the feature appears in iOS 26.4 beta code, Apple's website indicates automakers must implement support due to safety requirements that video only plays when parked. This means widespread availability may be delayed as manufacturers update their systems. The feature is expected to launch with iOS 26.4 in late March or early April, though it could be pushed to iOS 26.5 if Apple needs more development time.
