Apple has released the first macOS 27 Golden Gate public beta for testing ahead of the fall release. Users can enroll via Apple's free Beta Software Program, but should consider risks before installing on a primary Mac.

Golden Gate brings Siri AI features from iOS 27/iPadOS 27, accessible via Spotlight (Command+Space). Siri can search the web, access photos/emails/messages, use Visual Intelligence, and perform cross-app actions. A dedicated Siri app supports ongoing conversations. Apple also refined Liquid Glass design with a transparency slider and improved opacity for readability.

This update ends Intel Mac support—only Apple silicon Macs (2020 or later) are compatible. Excluded models include the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro (four Thunderbolt 3 ports), 2020 iMac, and 2019 Mac Pro. Back up with Time Machine before installing.

To install: sign up at beta.apple.com, open System Settings > General > Software Update, click the info icon next to Beta Updates, select macOS 27 Golden Gate Public Beta, and click Upgrade Now. Installation proceeds like a standard update.
