Googlebook: AI‑Powered Laptops with Gemini Magic Pointer

Google unveiled a new line of laptops called Googlebook that run on a hybrid Android‑ChromeOS stack powered by Gemini AI. The devices ditch the traditional cursor for a “Magic Pointer” that users wiggle to summon Gemini. Pointing at an email date creates a meeting, while selecting two images lets Gemini render a side‑by‑side view. The design promises a more proactive workflow.

Googlebook also ships with a new Android feature called Create My Widget, letting users craft custom dashboards by feeding Gemini prompts. Gemini pulls data from Gmail, Calendar and the web to assemble a personalized widget. Because the laptops run Android, they mirror smartphone apps and files through Quick Access, allowing users to view or insert phone content on the laptop without transfers.

Google is partnering with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to produce the first models, each sporting a distinctive glowbar on the lid that signals its Googlebook identity. While pricing details remain undisclosed, the company hints at a premium build that could place the laptops above Apple’s low‑cost MacBook Neo or even match its price tier to stay competitive. Launch is slated for fall 2026.
