FaceTime gets dual‑camera mode in iOS 27

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 brings a dual‑camera mode to FaceTime on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. The new Dual Capture lets users stream both front‑facing and rear‑facing views simultaneously, turning a regular video call into a split‑screen view of the user and their surroundings. This capability mirrors recent trends in immersive video conferencing today.

Activating the mode is as simple as tapping the camera‑flip icon in the lower‑left corner; the app instantly launches Dual Capture and shows the rear camera beside the selfie feed. Users can hide the front view anytime. Calls to older iPhones work if the recipient runs iOS 27. The update also improves video quality on weak networks and adds live captions in Traditional Chinese.

iOS 27 is currently in developer beta, with a public beta slated for July and a full rollout expected in September. By extending FaceTime’s visual flexibility and accessibility, Apple pushes the service deeper into remote work and social sharing, while the network‑optimizations aim to keep calls stable on cellular data. Consumers will see the features as soon as the September release lands.
