EU Blames Apple for Blocking Siri AI in Europe

The European Commission is pushing back on Apple's claim that EU regulators blocked Siri AI from launching in Europe, insisting the decision is entirely Apple's own. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated that Apple failed to develop compliant interoperability solutions and instead requested a blanket exemption from Digital Markets Act obligations, which isn't permitted.

Apple's senior vice president Craig Federighi previously characterized the situation differently, telling reporters the company was 'deeply disappointed' that regulators rejected their proposed Trusted System Agent system. This framework would have allowed third-party assistants safe access to device capabilities matching Siri AI. Apple framed EU requirements as demanding 'nearly unlimited access' to user devices.

The dispute centers on Digital Markets Act compliance and how tech companies balance innovation with regulatory oversight. When iOS 27 launches later this year with Siri AI's major redesign featuring a dedicated app and conversation history, EU users will miss out on these enhancements. Apple expressed hope to eventually bring Siri AI to Europe but provided no timeline.
