Apple's Holographic iPhone Rumored

Apple may be developing a "Spatial iPhone" with holographic display technology, according to supply chain rumors. The claims come from leaker Schrödinger, who suggests Samsung is creating an "MH1" or "H1" display that could power such a device. Samsung's Advanced Institute of Technology has published research on slim-panel holography since 2020, potentially positioning them as a supplier for Apple's rumored device.

The rumored Samsung display differs from earlier 3D screens by combining eye-tracking with diffractive beam-steering. It incorporates a nano-structured holographic layer in the AMOLED stack, creating depth effects that float above the glass. A patented algorithm would allow users to tilt the device to see around objects in videos, similar to Samsung's existing spatial displays but adapted for handheld use. The display maintains full 4K resolution while avoiding clarity loss.

Apple has a long history of interest in holographic technology, with patents dating back to 2008. While previous efforts haven't resulted in a commercial product, Apple's hardware chief John Ternus recently described spatial computing as being in the "early innings". Schrödinger suggests holographic smartphones could arrive around 2030, with Samsung having a manufacturing head start through their research, though Apple's supply chain involvement remains unconfirmed.
