Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone will feature a dual-layer ultra-thin glass structure to minimize display crease visibility, according to a new supply chain report. The device will sandwich the display between two layers of ultra-thin glass or flexible glass, isolating it from direct hinge contact.

This approach differs from current foldables that use a single UTG layer, spreading mechanical stress across multiple layers to improve durability. The composite glass stack could help Apple achieve its goal of an almost imperceptible crease, though recent reports have questioned earlier "crease-free" claims.

Apple has been testing next-generation UFG with variable thickness, using a thinner layer at the fold for flexibility and a thicker layer elsewhere for rigidity. The foldable iPhone is expected to launch in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, featuring a 5.3- to 5.5-inch outer display, 7.8-inch inner screen, liquid metal hinges, and a price between $2,000 and $2,500.
