Apple to Remove AirPort Utility App in iOS 27, Ending Legacy Router Support

Apple will pull AirPort Utility from the App Store as iOS 27 rolls out, according to beta 2 release notes. The app loses full support in the upcoming mobile OS, with Apple warning that functionality isn't guaranteed for anyone still using it on iOS 27 or later versions.

Users who previously downloaded AirPort Utility can re-download it if needed, but new installations won't be available. Apple plans similar removal from future macOS installations, though existing copies will continue working after updates. Both platforms explicitly state the app lacks guaranteed compatibility going forward.

Apple sunset its AirPort router lineup in 2018, yet maintained the utility app for managing legacy devices. Now macOS Golden Gate eliminates AFP support entirely, killing Time Machine backups to AirPort Time Capsule hardware. These moves signal the final phase-out of Apple's discontinued networking ecosystem.

For the small but dedicated user base still operating AirPort Extreme, Express, or Time Capsule devices, this creates a significant inconvenience. Third-party alternatives may emerge, but Apple's abandonment effectively ends official support for a product line that once competed with mainstream routers.
