iPad Air 3 Now Classified as Vintage by Apple

Apple has officially classified all variants of the 2019 iPad Air 3 as "vintage products," marking five years since the device was discontinued. The third-generation iPad Air featured a larger 10.5-inch display, Apple Pencil support, and a more powerful A12 Bionic chip compared to its predecessor. Both cellular and Wi-Fi only variants now appear on Apple's vintage list, which applies to devices that have been off the market for more than five years but less than seven.

Apple's vintage classification carries practical implications for device owners. The company provides service and parts for vintage products for up to seven years, assuming components remain available. Once a product exceeds seven years without being sold new, it becomes classified as "obsolete," limiting repair options further. Owners of the now-vintage iPad Air 3 may face additional difficulties in getting their devices serviced as the vintage period approaches its conclusion.

The iPad Air 3 notably suffered from a "blank screen issue" that left displays permanently disabled in some cases. Apple issued a repair program for affected devices in March 2020, acknowledging that screens would flicker before going permanently blank under certain circumstances. Despite its vintage status, owners can still seek repairs at Apple Authorized Service Providers and Apple retail locations, though availability depends on remaining inventory of necessary components.
