Apple brings Tap to Pay iPhone service to Malaysia

Apple has launched Tap to Pay for iPhone in Malaysia, letting any compatible device become a point‑of‑sale terminal. Independent sellers, small shops and large retailers can accept Apple Pay, contactless cards and other digital wallets without extra hardware. Transactions are encrypted, and Apple does not retain purchase details or shopper identities. The feature requires iPhone models running iOS 17 and enrollment through a supported payment app.

Launch partners ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe and Zoho will integrate the feature for their Malaysian merchants, and Apple says the service will soon be usable at its Exchange TRX checkout. Supported cards span American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, UnionPay and Visa, all processed via the iPhone’s NFC chip with optional PIN entry and accessibility options. Merchants also gain access to real‑time analytics through their chosen platform.

First introduced in the United States in February 2022, Tap to Pay has expanded to over 50 markets, and its Malaysian debut marks the latest step in Apple’s push to replace traditional card readers. By leveraging existing iPhones, the rollout could lower entry costs for small businesses and accelerate adoption of contactless payments across Southeast Asia.
