Apple fixes Series 9 omission from watchOS 27 compatibility

Apple confirmed that the Apple Watch Series 9 will run watchOS 27 after the model was omitted from the official compatibility list posted following WWDC 2026. The initial page only named the SE 3, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3, implying the newer Series 9 was unsupported despite sharing the same S9 chip as the Ultra 2. Apple corrected the page within hours for existing owners.

Developers released watchOS 27 beta 1, and Series 9 owners quickly reported successful installation and operation, confirming the device’s compatibility. Apple told MacRumors the omission was a clerical error and that the watch will receive the full feature set, including a new Siri‑driven AI app, enhanced workout insights, and Spanish support for Workout Buddy in the market.

watchOS 27 still drops support for older generations—Series 6, 7, 8, the original Ultra and SE 2—marking Apple’s largest single‑year reduction in watch software support. Users of those models will miss out on the AI enhancements and health data refinements introduced in the update. The correction reassures current Series 9 owners that their device remains future‑ready.
