Apple Expands CarPlay with Video, Siri AI and More on iOS 27

Apple unveiled new CarPlay options at WWDC 2026, letting users stream video to a parked vehicle’s screen via AirPlay. The move builds on last year’s hint that drivers could watch content while stationary. CarPlay now supports video playback only when the car is idling, ensuring safety while keeping passengers entertained during waits or charging and while the vehicle sits still on the side.

iOS 27 drops a developer kit that lets third‑party creators build CarPlay apps with video browsing, letting drivers search for clips directly from the car’s interface. The feature activates only on new vehicles that support the stream, and developers can now embed catalogues inside CarPlay, expanding the ecosystem beyond navigation and audio. The update targets iPhone 15 Pro and newer models for content delivery.

Siri AI joins CarPlay when paired with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, offering conversational queries about trails, traffic, or media. Apple also teased four CarPlay refinements: audio scrubbing in Now Playing, sharper GPS headings, a mini‑audio player, and steadier wireless links. The iOS 27 beta is live for developers now; a public beta will launch in July, with full release in September 2026.
