iOS 27 revamps CarPlay with Siri AI and native video

Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC 2026, slated for a fall rollout. The update brings the most substantial CarPlay overhaul, a significant upgrade, in years, adding native video streaming, a new Siri AI interface, and expanded app conversation modes. Because CarPlay runs on iOS, these changes arrive directly to compatible vehicles, though some features depend on automaker firmware updates.

Siri AI replaces the classic voice assistant with a dark, glassy orb that mirrors the Dynamic Island design. The assistant now handles multi‑step commands, stores entire dialogs in a unified Siri app, and syncs conversations across iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud. Developers can also embed chat‑style interfaces into any CarPlay app, turning voice orders into full‑screen interactions.

Apple TV joins CarPlay as a first‑party video app, allowing users to browse and launch titles from the car’s screen. Playback is limited to parked mode, but shifting to drive automatically falls back to audio‑only, preserving safety. Combined with a new mini‑player for Music and Podcasts and more stable wireless links, iOS 27 turns the infotainment console into a true extension of the Apple ecosystem.
