Apple is actively testing its Background Security Improvement feature with a second update for developers and public beta testers running iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3. This feature, which rolled out in version 26.1, provides additional security protections for Safari, WebKit, and system libraries between full software updates. Users can install these updates manually via the Privacy and Security settings or enable automatic installation.

This new system replaces the previously used Rapid Security Response feature, which was phased out due to low usage and technical bugs, such as a 2023 issue affecting website displays. While Apple warns of rare compatibility issues, users can opt out of Background Security Updates and receive them in standard updates later.
