Apple aims for July production of foldable iPhone Ultra

Apple plans to start mass production of its foldable iPhone, dubbed the Ultra, by the end of July. The Korean outlet The Elec says the schedule holds despite recent reports of hinge durability problems. Production will use a 7.8‑inch OLED panel from Samsung, which integrates the color‑filter layer to shave weight and improve efficiency. A September launch remains the target.

Testing revealed the hinge, supplied by Taiwan’s Shin Zu Shing and U.S. firm Amphenol, emitted faint noise after millions of folds and suffered higher defect rates due to loose tolerances. Both suppliers employ 3D‑printed hinge components, and sources say most of those issues have been resolved. The device will also feature a 5.5‑inch cover screen, Apple’s A20 chip, C2 modem, Touch ID power button and dual rear cameras.

Pricing rumors peg the Ultra at roughly $2,000, positioning it well above standard iPhone models but below premium foldables from competitors. By keeping the launch window alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line, Apple hopes still to showcase its first true foldable without cannibalizing sales. The production timeline suggests the company has cleared major engineering hurdles.
