Apple’s first foldable iPhone, reportedly branded as the iPhone Ultra and priced over $2,000, will launch in just over two weeks. Despite its innovative design, the device faces significant limitations compared to current models.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to feature only a Main and Ultra Wide camera, both 48MP, omitting the telephoto lens found in other devices. Additionally, it lacks an Action button and mute switch entirely. The side button and Camera Control are on the right edge, while volume buttons move to the top edge, similar to the iPad mini.

Biometric security shifts from Face ID to Touch ID embedded in the side button. This change accommodates the ultra-thin form factor and avoids duplicating components for dual displays. Furthermore, leaked dummy units suggest the removal of the Mag Safe ring, meaning the phone will rely on standard wireless charging rather than magnetic accessories.

Finally, sources like Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg indicate the iPhone Ultra will be eSIM-only worldwide due to space constraints. This mirrors the strategy for the iPhone Air and parts of the iPhone 17 lineup, though physical SIM slots remain in markets like China.
