Apple adds new App Store ad slots in March

Apple told developers in a March‑week email that additional ads will appear in App Store search results beginning Tuesday, March 3. The first placements launch in the U.K. and Japan, with the U.S. slated to receive them before the month ends. This marks the first concrete rollout date after last month’s announcement.

Until now developers could only purchase the single top‑of‑search slot. Apple’s new layout adds several lower‑position slots, visible on iPhone and iPad running iOS 26.2 or iPadOS 26.2 and later, each marked with an Ad label. The move follows the rebranding of Search Ads to Apple Ads and aims to boost services revenue.

Apple notes that roughly 65 percent of app downloads follow a search, so expanding ad inventory gives marketers more chances to drive installs without altering campaigns. Eligible ads will automatically fill any new position, though developers cannot bid for specific slots. Watch how the added clutter influences user discovery and developer ROI as the rollout completes.
