AirPods Max 2: Apple Keeps Design, Adds H2 Chip and Better Sound

Apple's AirPods Max 2 launch underscores a deliberate strategy of refinement over revolution. While the headphones introduce the H2 chip for improved Active Noise Cancellation and Adaptive Audio, the core industrial design remains virtually identical to the original model. The same aluminum ear cups, stainless steel headband frame, telescoping arms, and knit mesh canopy persist, maintaining the familiar look and feel consumers know.

This unchanged design extends to dimensions, weight, and construction, meaning AirPods Max 2 look and feel indistinguishable from their predecessors. The Smart Case, criticized since launch for its unusual appearance and limited protection, also remains untouched, covering the ear cups while leaving the headband exposed and forcing the headphones into ultra-low-power mode when stored. Despite user complaints about the material's durability and tendency to crease, Apple has not redesigned this accessory.
