Verizon has officially partnered with BMW Group to provide 5G connectivity for new vehicles sold in the United States. This collaboration leverages an existing relationship between Verizon and KDDI, an IoT and connected experience provider that already partners with BMW.

New BMW vehicles destined for the US market will now utilize Verizon's cellular network for connected services. While specific models weren't named, the partnership is expected to benefit upcoming vehicles, potentially including those based on BMW's Neue Klasse platform, as well as newer iterations of the i X3 and i X5. BMW's Mini brand is also included in the agreement.

This move signifies a broader industry trend towards integrating advanced cellular connectivity into automobiles, enhancing features like over-the-air updates, real-time traffic data, and in-car entertainment. For consumers, it promises a more seamless and potentially faster connected experience within their vehicles, while for Verizon, it expands its reach into the automotive sector with a 5G Standalone Connected Vehicles service.
