Telegram rolls out a new native app for the Apple Watch, ending a three‑year gap since the original watchOS client was dropped. The move follows growing demand for instant messaging on wearables, especially after competitors expanded their smartwatch suites. Telegram’s return signals a shift toward tighter integration with Apple’s ecosystem.

The updated watchOS experience supports text and voice chats, GIFs, video playback, location sharing, and stickers. Users can pull every conversation and contact list straight to the band, eliminating the need for a phone screen. After installation, a QR code in the iPhone app syncs data, keeping the smartwatch and phone in lockstep daily interaction.

Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov shared the launch on X, noting that the smartwatch app bridges the gap between desktop and mobile usage. The feature set matches the desktop client’s core functions, allowing users to stay in touch without unlocking their iPhone. The addition positions Telegram competitively against Slack and Microsoft Teams, which already offer robust watchOS support for business communicators.

Users downloading the app from the App Store will also receive periodic updates that refine notification handling and battery optimization. Telegram’s decision to re‑introduce smartwatch support reflects a broader trend of messaging platforms expanding beyond smartphones. The move could prompt other developers to revisit their wearable strategies, reshaping how real‑time communication is experienced on the go for every user experience.
