Sony is set to launch its WH‑1000X headphones tomorrow, but a leak has already mapped out the product’s look and performance, making the official reveal almost redundant. The images show a brushed‑metal yoke, thicker headband, and a new carry case.

The design shift signals Sony’s intent to position the WH‑1000X as a premium tier above the WH‑1000XM6, yet they are not direct replacements. The new model will sport 12 microphones and the same QN3 Noise Canceling Processor as the XM6, but with an updated V3 integrated unit.

Audio engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound and Coast Mastering have tuned bespoke drivers, though driver size remains undisclosed. Battery life figures hover at 24 hours with ANC and 32 hours without, lower than the XM6’s 30/40‑hour claims. The headphones will launch at $649.

Sony’s move underscores an ongoing push toward higher‑end, factory‑tuned wireless audio, offering consumers a more premium experience at a price point that sits $200 above the XM6. The launch will test whether the added cost translates into noticeable audio and feature gains.
