Sony has unveiled the WF-1000XM6, its latest flagship wireless earbuds, marking the first update in two years since the XM5 model. The new earbuds feature an upgraded Integrated Processor V2 with 32-bit audio processing, a significant leap from the previous generation's 24-bit depth. Sony claims this enhancement delivers improved clarity, dynamic range, and detail.

The WF-1000XM6 retains the 8.4mm dynamic drivers but introduces custom sound tuning developed in collaboration with Sony Music-affiliated recording studios. Users can choose from AAC, SBC, LC3, and LDAC audio codecs, plus Sony's DSEE Extreme AI upscaling technology. The earbuds also include an updated 10-band equalizer in the Sony Sound Connect app, multipoint pairing via Bluetooth 5.3 (LE), and support for 360 Reality Audio with head tracking.

The standout feature is the new QN3e noise-cancelling chip, inherited from the WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones. Sony promises 25% more effective noise reduction compared to the XM5, particularly in mid-to-high frequencies. The adaptive ANC system uses four microphones per earbud and analyzes external noise to adjust sound and cancellation in real time. The ambient mode has been refined for more natural sound, and internal antennas are now 1.5x larger for improved connectivity.

Battery life remains at 8 hours per charge, with the case providing two additional full charges for a total of 24 hours. The WF-1000XM6 will be available in silver and black for €300/$330 and includes wireless charging and IPX4 water resistance.
