Sony's WF-1000XM6 earbuds arrive over two years after their predecessors, bringing an updated design and enhanced features. The new model sports an even longer and heavier build at 6.4 grams per earbud, with a combined weight of just over 58 grams including the charging case. Sony claims significant improvements in sound tuning, noise cancellation, and call quality.

Sony has equipped the XM6 with four microphones per side—two more than the XM5—promising 25% more effective noise reduction. The earbuds feature an updated Integrated Processor V2 with 32-bit audio processing and the QN3e noise-cancelling chip inherited from the over-ear WH-1000XM6. The charging case has grown larger at 62 x 26 x 41mm, trading the XM5's premium curves for sharper corners and a more generic design.

While comfort remains subjective due to the foam ear tips, the XM6 delivers on its feature promises. The adaptive noise canceling optimizer adjusts in real-time based on how you wear the earbuds, while the ambient sound mode reproduces external sounds naturally. With Bluetooth 5.3 LE, dual device pairing, and 360 Reality Audio support, these earbuds pack premium features into a bulkier frame. The question remains whether the enhanced performance justifies the larger, less pocket-friendly design.
