Samsung’s Flex Titanium: Next‑Gen Foldable Innovation

The Galaxy Z Fold7 introduced a third‑generation Armor Flex Hinge that was 27% thinner and 43% lighter than its predecessor. Samsung now previews Flex Titanium, a new layer that promises even thinner, tougher foldable displays with a minimized crease.

Flex Titanium combines a super‑thin Titanium alloy film—about one‑third the thickness of a human hair—and a flexible titanium plate. The alloy film is reportedly 20x stiffer than older polymer films, supporting the OLED panel while flexing. The plate, added in the Z Fold7, now has fewer air gaps, creating a tighter bond and a flatter surface.

Corporate EVP Kyung‑Jin Yoo explains that micro‑patterned holes in the titanium plate secure flexibility and durability, while new organic materials boost power efficiency. The design draws on seven generations of Galaxy foldable data and consumer feedback.

At Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London, a new wide book‑style foldable—between a Z Flip and a Z Fold—will be unveiled under the tagline “A New Shape Unfolds.”
