Samsung Signals Return of Classic Watch in 2024 Lineup

Samsung's smartwatch strategy has shifted again. After skipping a Classic model in the Watch5 and Watch7 lines, insiders suggest the next generation may return to the classic form factor. Android Authority uncovered three Codenames—Fresh 9, Wise 9, and Project V2—pointing to the Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Watch9 Classic, and Ultra 2, respectively, in this year.

The codenames match a pattern Samsung follows with its lineup. Fresh 9 is likely the core Watch9, while Wise 9 carries the Classic badge. Project V2 is expected to be the Ultra 2, a high‑end model. A new setting in Wear OS code hints the watches will support Pixel‑only Raise‑to‑talk, widening cross‑platform features.

Rumors place the launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8, slated for July 22. Samsung could roll out the Watch9 series and Ultra 2 together with the new foldables, potentially boosting sales across its ecosystem. The Classic model’s return signals a renewed focus on premium, analog‑styled wearables.

Retailers already list the Classic at €239.90, underlining Samsung's price strategy for mid‑tier smartwatches. If the July announcement follows through, consumers will have a clear choice between a traditional dial and a cutting‑edge design, solidifying Samsung's position in the competitive smartwatch market.
