The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 has proven more successful than expected. According to ET News, Samsung initially planned to build 2.8 million Z Fold8 units, plus 2.0 million Ultra and 1.5 million Flip8 units this year. Now the company is increasing the Z Fold8 production target by 1 million units, aiming for nearly 4 million total in 2026.

Component suppliers have received the additional order.\n\nThe Galaxy Z Fold8 helped the Z8 series smash pre-order records, beating the 2019 record set by the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+. Of the 1.44 million Z8 units pre-ordered in South Korea, 70% were Z Fold8s. In Europe, the wide foldable accounted for 40% of pre-orders.\n\nOne insider attributes the surge to anxiety over memory-related price increases.

They noted that pre-orders offering 'double storage' benefits—providing a 512GB model for the price of a 256GB one—may have driven initial demand. Because the Z Fold8 received a positive response, Samsung expects higher foldable phone demand this year.\n\nHuawei, which pioneered the wide form factor, is not well-positioned to capitalize. Apple is reportedly building a wide foldable called the iPhone Ultra, though it may be delayed.
