RedMagic is preparing a successor to its Astra tablet, reportedly called the Astra 2 internationally and RedMagic Tablet 5 Pro in China. The new tablet will feature a 200Hz refresh rate screen, a significant upgrade from the original model. According to leaks from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the device will maintain a 9-inch display size similar to its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Astra 2 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, positioning it as a high-performance gaming tablet. The battery capacity is also increasing to approximately 9,000 mAh, up from the original's 8,200 mAh. This larger battery should provide extended gaming sessions for mobile gamers.

RedMagic, known for its gaming-focused devices, will likely emphasize the 200Hz refresh rate as a key selling point. The company skipped the number 4 in its Chinese naming due to tetraphobia, a cultural superstition about the number four being unlucky. While full specifications remain under wraps, the combination of high refresh rate, powerful processor, and gaming pedigree suggests the Astra 2 will target serious mobile gamers when it launches.
