Realme India has confirmed that future models will ship with ColorOS 17 instead of the brand‑specific Realme UI. The decision follows a media report that the two operating systems would merge to cut R&D expenses and streamline the update pipeline.

The company said the move is aimed at simplifying the process for both makers and users. While the exact first Realme device to adopt ColorOS 17 hasn’t been named, it’s likely that Oppo, which already runs the OS, will get it first, with Realme following shortly.

Importantly, Realme will also roll the new OS to existing phones that qualify for upgrades. For example, the Realme GT 8 Pro, launched last year with Realme UI 7.0 and a promise of four Android upgrades, will receive ColorOS 17 and future versions.

From a user’s perspective, the change should feel subtle. The interface of Realme UI is already very close to ColorOS, and early Realme phones originally shipped with ColorOS before the switch to Realme UI in 2020. The announcement now applies mainly to India, but other markets may follow.
