Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Alleged New Model

Qualcomm is reportedly preparing to launch a new version of its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC later this year, according to leaker Digital Chat Station. This alleged new chip, with model number SM8850-1-AB, is expected to offer performance similar to the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but at a lower price point, targeting devices under CNY 4,000 (approximately $590).

This would mark the fourth iteration of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Currently, there are existing versions including the standard SM8850-AC, a seven-core CPU variant (SM8850-5-AC) found in Oppo's Find N6, and the SM8850-1-AD used by Samsung in its Galaxy S26 and Galaxy Z Fold8 series. The introduction of the SM8850-1-AB suggests Qualcomm aims to provide a more accessible flagship-tier performance option for the market, potentially competing with future Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 powered devices.

It remains to be seen which manufacturers will opt for this new, cost-effective iteration of the flagship SoC, especially as other 'flagship killer' devices might consider the significantly more powerful, though presumably more expensive, next-generation chipset.
