Nex Computer's new NexPhone is an Android 16 smartphone designed to function as a full desktop replacement. It can multi-boot into Linux (Debian) and Windows 11, allowing users to connect it to an external monitor for a traditional desktop experience. This builds on the company's previous NexDock concept of turning phones into laptops.

The device runs a custom NexOS that integrates Linux as an app within the Android interface. Powered by the midrange Qualcomm QCM6490 chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, it features a 6.58-inch 120Hz IPS LCD, IP69 durability, and a 5,000 mAh battery. The $549 price positions it as an alternative to dedicated laptops for mobile professionals.

Shipments are expected in Q3 2026 following a $199 deposit reservation. While the hardware is modest, the software flexibility targets a niche of users seeking a single device for both mobile and desktop tasks. This approach echoes earlier convergence efforts like Samsung's DeX but adds a full multi-boot capability.
