Microsoft has introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a desktop workstation featuring the RTX Spark chip that debuted in the Surface Laptop Ultra. The device delivers impressive specs with 1 petaflop of FP4 compute and 128GB of unified RAM, designed specifically for AI development and running large language models locally.

The RTX Spark combines a 20-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell GPU equivalent to an RTX 5070 with 6,144 CUDA cores. Running Windows 11 Pro pre-configured for developers, it includes WSL 2 with GPU passthrough and CUDA support. The monolithic aluminum body features 1,000 air vents to handle cooling needs for sustained performance.

Pricing remains undisclosed, but the Dev Box will launch exclusively on Microsoft.com in the US later this year. With HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, Ethernet, and audio ports, it offers flexibility as either a main development machine or a dedicated AI inference station that can be accessed remotely from lower-power devices.
