Earlier this summer, Lava launched its Smart 4 Plus smartphone with a mediocre spec sheet, and now the brand has announced an even more affordable entry with the Lava Smart 4. It retails for INR 8,500 ($90) and its specifications highlight how severe the global memory shortage is affecting entry‑level devices.

The phone features a 6.56‑inch LCD with 960 × 540 px resolution, a 540p display at 168ppi, and a 90Hz refresh rate, complemented by a waterdrop notch that houses the 5MP front‑facing camera. Powered by the familiar Unisoc 9863 A 28nm SoC originally announced in 2018, it brings a chipset that has been a staple among Lava devices.

It ships with only 3GB of RAM, which feels insufficient for modern use, and runs Android 16 Go Edition, a version that normally requires at least 6GB of RAM. The camera setup includes an 8MP main sensor, while a 5,000 mAh battery supports 10W charging via USB‑C. Available in Konark Gold and Ajanta Grey, the Lava Smart 4 will be sold across India through licensed retailers.
