Google's Gemini-powered Ask Maps feature in Google Maps is getting major upgrades, including the ability to order food directly from the app. Users can ask Ask Maps what they want to eat, and it will find open restaurants along their route, adding selected dishes directly to their cart. This food ordering functionality is rolling out with partners like Square and Toast, with Uber Eats support coming soon.

Ask Maps also now helps users discover local hotels and events, comparing real-time prices and checking availability with booking links. By connecting securely to Gmail through Personal Intelligence, Ask Maps can access information about upcoming flights or dinner reservations to provide personalized recommendations. This Gmail integration is off by default.

With history enabled, Ask Maps remembers past conversations, allowing users to continue where they left off. The feature also introduces live transit updates via a new widget, providing real-time delay information for buses, trains, subways, and ferries. Users can contribute conversational tips and upload photos to suggest map edits.

Live transit updates, personalized responses, and conversation memory are available globally, while food ordering, hotel discovery, and event features are launching first in the US with expansion planned.
