Google is rolling out its Parental Controls suite to a wider range of Android devices through the upcoming Android 17 update. Originally launched alongside the Pixel 10 series, these tools integrate directly into Android's Settings menu rather than existing as a separate app. Parents can monitor screen time, set device downtime schedules, and restrict specific applications.

The controls include Google Play app filtering capabilities and granular time limits for individual apps. Users can also block apps entirely, with automatic downtime features that lock devices during designated hours like bedtime. This addresses growing concerns about children's digital wellbeing and excessive screen time across various device manufacturers.

A dedicated pathway within Parental Controls leads to Family Link setup, which provides remote management features. These include School Time modes, approval requirements for app downloads, and location-based alerts. The expansion means families won't need Pixel hardware to access these safety tools.

By integrating these features at the OS level, Google is making digital parenting more accessible across its ecosystem. The update arrives as regulators and parents increasingly scrutinize tech companies' responsibilities in protecting minors online, positioning Google's solution as a standard rather than premium offering.
