AT&T's $3 Daily iPad Plan Challenges Traditional Carriers

AT&T introduced Unlimited Day Pass, a daily cellular data plan for iPads that requires no contract or ongoing subscription. Customers pay $3 per day for unlimited data access whenever they need it. The carrier offers one free day pass per customer to try the service, which works exclusively through eSIM on cellular-capable iPad models.

Users activate the service through Settings > Cellular Data on their iPad, selecting AT&T Unlimited Day Pass without needing to download any additional apps or connect to Wi-Fi. This simplifies the process compared to traditional carrier activation methods, making it accessible for occasional cellular users who don't want monthly commitments.

The move addresses a gap in the market for flexible, on-demand connectivity. Many iPad owners rarely use cellular data but occasionally need it for travel or remote work. AT&T's solution provides a middle ground between expensive monthly plans and unreliable public Wi-Fi.

AT&T says the service will expand to other 5G-enabled devices in the future, suggesting this represents a broader shift toward more flexible wireless offerings. The carrier is betting that consumers will pay for convenience when they actually need it.
