Apple's 36-Month iPad Financing vs Carrier Deals

Apple introduced a 36-month financing option for cellular iPads at checkout, available for iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro, subject to carrier approval. The plan spreads the same total cost over three years, lowering monthly payments but not the price.

For a $1,399 cellular 11-inch iPad Pro with M5, Apple Card Monthly Installments cost about $116.58/month for 12 months with 3% Daily Cash, while carrier financing through AT&T or Verizon runs about $39/month over 36 months before data service. Carrier plans require activation and separate data plans; the iPad stays unlocked but unpaid balance remains if switching carriers. AT&T and Verizon already offer similar 36-month, 0% APR financing, with promotions like bill credits that can lower effective price but may require new lines and continued service.

Retail discounts may beat carrier financing. Amazon offers up to $200 off select iPads, plus 12-month 0% financing for Visa cardholders. B&H's Payboo Card provides instant sales tax discounts up to 10% in qualifying states. Buyers should compare total three-year costs including data, fees, credits, and cancellation terms. A Wi-Fi iPad with iPhone hotspot may cost less overall.
