Apple unveiled new on‑device AI features at WWDC 2026. The company’s most powerful model, needed for expressive Siri voices and advanced dictation, demands 12 GB of unified memory. Only the latest flagship phones and high‑end tablets meet the requirement, limiting the rollout to a small segment of the market.

Support extends to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, all sporting 12 GB of RAM. The standard iPhone 17, with 8 GB, falls short. On iPad, only M4‑based models and newer with 12 GB or more qualify, while Macs with M3 chips and 12 GB RAM or more join the list in the current device generation and they will enable advanced features.

Mac support shifts to machines powered by the M3 chip or newer and boasting 12 GB or more RAM. The Vision Pro headset, equipped with the M5 processor, also gains access to the AI suite. iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate will deliver the features later this year to enhance user experience and drive innovation across Apple’s ecosystem.

Apple’s selective rollout underscores a broader trend toward high‑performance hardware requirements for next‑generation AI. Consumers with older models will miss out on richer voice interactions and smarter dictation until future upgrades. The move signals that advanced on‑device intelligence will remain a premium feature tied tightly to newer, higher‑spec devices in the global tech market today.
