American Express cardholders can now directly redeem Membership Rewards points for online purchases made through Apple Pay. This integration allows users to apply points during the checkout process within apps or on websites, eliminating the need to exit the payment flow or use separate redemption portals.

Users select their eligible Amex card in Apple Pay, then choose the "Use Rewards" option. They can then specify the number of points to cover the full or partial cost of the transaction. American Express stated that Apple will not retain transaction data linked to the user when points are redeemed this way.

Adding an Amex card to Apple Pay involves using the Wallet app, tapping the '+' icon, and following on-screen prompts. Cardholders can set their Amex card as the default for Apple Pay. This move streamlines the redemption process, making rewards more accessible for everyday online spending.
