xMEMS Labs has introduced the XMC-1200, an active micro fan designed to fit inside smart glasses, AR, and XR glasses. This tiny fan, built on the company's µCooling platform, measures just 46mm² and aims to improve processor performance, video recording duration, and wearer comfort by addressing heat dissipation issues.

When paired with the Astra2 drive ASIC, the XMC-1200 consumes only 70m W of power while capable of reducing temperatures by up to 10 degrees C under a 1W thermal load. xMEMS anticipates that improved micro-cooling will be crucial for next-generation smart and AR glasses, enabling greater on-device AI performance in lightweight designs as more demanding AI applications emerge.

xMEMS, known for its speakers-on-a-chip, is targeting production readiness for the XMC-1200 in Q4 2027. This suggests that smart glasses incorporating this new micro-cooling technology could become available to consumers as early as 2028.
